To help alleviate congestion on 122.75, the AFTW is encouraging pilots to use frequency 122.85 in the southern part of the valley. The use of these frequencies is covered in the AIM, Section 4-1-11. The frequency division line is I-10 to the west and US-60 to the east. All pilots north of this line are encouraged to transmit their position information on frequency 122.75. Pilots on the south side of this line should use frequency 128.925 or 122.85 (See map below). On October 25, 2006, the AFTW decided to start using 128.925 to relieve radio congestion on 122.85. 128.925 is owned and operated by ATCA and should be used in the Rainbow Valley area west of the Estrella Mountains. NOTE: 122.85 is intended ONLY for pilots in the south-Phoenix area. Pilots in the Tucson area (including Siverbell) should use company frequencies or 122.75.
